The Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) on March 26, 2026, briefed Defence Attachés representing various countries in Rwanda on the security situation in Rwanda and across the region.
The briefing took place at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Kimihurura, where the attachés were also presented with an overview of Rwanda’s contribution to United Nations peacekeeping operations and other peace missions conducted through bilateral and multilateral military cooperation.
The Director General for International Military Cooperation at the Ministry of Defence, Brigadier General Patrick Karuretwa, emphasized that the meeting serves as an important and unique platform for fostering constructive and transparent dialogue on regional and global security matters.
He said:
“This platform is extremely important at a time when the world is facing complex security challenges. Conflicts are increasing in different parts of the world, international cooperation is being tested, and the rules governing relations between states are under unprecedented pressure. In such times, deeper and constructive cooperation is essential for the common good.”

The Dean of the Defence Attachés, Brigadier General Mohamed Mirghani Yousif of Sudan, welcomed the briefing, noting that it was informative and valuable.
He stated:
“We appreciate the time taken to provide us with a comprehensive overview of the current security situation, both domestically and internationally. Rwanda is a country characterized by strong security, and this should serve as a good example to other nations, as it is something to be proud of.”

The event was attended by representatives from 36 countries and international organizations, including Angola, Brazil, Botswana, China, Denmark, Egypt, Ethiopia, France, Ghana, Germany, Israel, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Kenya, and Luxembourg.
Also represented were Morocco, Namibia, Poland, Qatar, South Korea, Russia, Senegal, Sudan, Sweden, Tanzania, Türkiye, Uganda, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Zimbabwe, as well as the European Union and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
